Nvidia Corp., the world’s second most valuable company, has been ramping up its presence in China by substantially increasing its workforce throughout 2024. The company is expected to conclude the year with approximately 4,000 employees, marking a significant rise from the nearly 3,000 it had at the beginning of the year, according to sources familiar with the company’s operations.
A substantial portion of this expansion has been focused on Nvidia’s Beijing office, where the company has added around 200 staff members to its research team working on autonomous driving technologies. These sources requested anonymity due to the private nature of the information.
The enhancement of Nvidia’s research capabilities in China is part of its broader strategy to develop cutting-edge autonomous driving technologies. The US-based tech giant has been a leader in AI chips and has long been focused on developing technologies that enable self-driving cars.
In addition to bolstering its autonomous driving research team, Nvidia has also expanded its after-sales service and networking software development teams in China, indicating a comprehensive approach to growth in the region.
