Octopus Energy has unveiled its groundbreaking Power Pack Bundle at its Energy Tech Summit. Priced at under £300 monthly, the package includes a leased V2G-ready BYD Dolphin electric vehicle, a bi-directional Zaptec Pro charger, and access to a smart tariff that offers completely free home charging.
Key Features of the Power Pack Bundle
The innovative bundle leverages Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology, turning electric vehicles into ‘batteries on wheels’. This allows EVs to charge when electricity is cheap and feed it back to the grid during peak times when electricity is more expensive. By doing so, it reduces the grid’s reliance on polluting fossil fuel plants without compromising the vehicle’s primary function of transportation.
How V2G Technology Works
The Power Pack Bundle, powered by Octopus Energy Group’s tech platform Kraken, automates the process of charging and discharging the vehicle’s battery. Drivers simply plug in their vehicle overnight, and the technology handles the rest, guaranteeing free home charging for every mile driven during the lease.
Benefits for Consumers and the Grid
This innovative approach could transform hundreds of thousands of electric vehicles into miniature power stations on wheels. For typical EV drivers, the complimentary charging could result in annual bill reductions of £620 compared to charging on a standard tariff.
Octopus Energy Group has partnered with BYD and Motability Operations to extend the benefits of V2G technology to people with disabilities across the UK, promoting cost-effective and accessible electric motoring.
