PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A person died following a head-on collision Wednesday night between a FedEx box truck and a pickup truck, officials have confirmed.
The crash occurred near Big Eddy Marina on Marine Drive. Portland Fire & Rescue (PF&R) initially reported the vehicle as an SUV, though officials later clarified that the other vehicle was a pickup truck. The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office reported that a westbound Ford F-150, carrying a driver and a passenger, crossed the center line and collided head-on with an eastbound FedEx delivery truck.
The driver of the FedEx truck had to be extricated from the vehicle before being transported to a local trauma center for treatment of serious injuries. The “pediatric” passenger in the pickup truck sustained injuries that were not life-threatening. Tragically, the driver of the Ford F-150 was pronounced dead at the scene.
PF&R has announced that Marine Drive will be closed for an indefinite period and advises the public to seek alternate routes.
