TOOELE COUNTY, Utah – One person is dead and another is in the hospital following a single-vehicle crash on Wednesday evening, according to officials. The incident occurred on Interstate 80 near mile marker 95.
According to Lt. Cam Roden with the Utah Highway Patrol, the driver of the vehicle, a male, was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife, who was a passenger in the truck, was taken to a local hospital in serious to critical condition. Roden also confirmed with ABC4.com that the female passenger had been notified of her husband’s death.
Roden stated that the crash happened just after 6 p.m. Wednesday. He explained that rain had made the roadways wet. For reasons yet to be determined, the grey Ford F-250 involved in the crash began to fishtail. The truck then veered off the right shoulder of the road and into a “marshy area,” eventually coming to rest in approximately one foot of water.
Authorities are actively investigating the factors that may have contributed to the crash. No additional identifying information about the victims has been released at this time, and the investigation is ongoing. Further details will be released as they become available.
