Police are searching for a suspect involved in a truck theft from the Michigan Milk Producers Association (MMPA) employee parking lot, who may have stolen Amazon packages in Dimondale, Michigan.
According to an update posted on the Ovid Police Department’s Facebook page, authorities believe the suspect was driving a stolen white 2015 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. The truck was reported stolen from the MMPA parking lot the day before.
On Friday the suspect was seen in Dimondale, roughly 40 miles southwest of Lansing, where he is believed to have stolen Amazon packages off a porch. The suspect was reportedly wearing a dark green jacket with a black stripe, which may have come from the truck. Police have warned that the suspect possibly has a firearm.
Following an attempt to arrest the suspect on outstanding warrants, he fled on foot. Ovid Police Chief Lisa Rousseau has urged the suspect to turn himself in.
“If the subject is tired of running, please, give us a call,” Rousseau said in a Facebook post. She also asked anyone who sees the truck or the suspect to call 911 immediately and to not approach him.
Chief Rousseau also addressed the public’s frustration with the ongoing search, explaining that “thousands of people have driven past him, and don’t even ‘see’ him, because they are driving distracted.” She emphasized that police are dealing with other urgent matters in addition to the manhunt, and asked for understanding in why more information isn’t shared.
“We share as much information that we can, without compromising the criminal case,” Rousseau stated. “There is a saying we use in law enforcement: Cases are won or lost outside of the courtroom. What happens prior to the criminal case being heard in court, all matters.”
The incident began Thursday morning when an Ovid police sergeant assisted the Shiawassee County Sheriff’s Office at an address on Warren Road in Shiawassee County. A suspect was arrested on outstanding warrants, but a second suspect fled on foot. The suspect was seen on surveillance cameras. The white Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was reported stolen at 11:15 a.m. that day.
