Pedestrian Dies After Being Hit by Pickup Truck Running Red Light in Las Vegas
A fatal accident involving a pedestrian occurred on Thursday at the intersection of Rancho Drive and Decatur Boulevard in Las Vegas, according to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police.
The collision happened around 5:16 p.m. when a 2013 Ram 1500, driven by 37-year-old Angel Franco Merida, was heading south on Rancho Drive and ran through a red light at Decatur Boulevard. The truck hit a 33-year-old woman who was walking in the marked crosswalk.

The woman suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to University Medical Center. By Friday morning, she had succumbed to her injuries, according to LVMPD.
The driver, Angel Franco Merida, remained at the scene and was subsequently arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center. Police reported that he did not show signs of impairment.
Jail records indicate that Franco Merida is facing a charge of reckless driving resulting in death or substantial bodily harm, with his first court appearance scheduled for Friday afternoon.
This incident marks the 81st traffic-related fatality in LVMPD’s jurisdiction so far this year.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
