A fatal traffic incident on I-55 southbound near Shirley, Illinois, claimed the life of a pedestrian on the morning of March 20, 2025. The victim, a 28-year-old male, was struck by a pickup truck near mile marker 154, according to McLean County Coroner Dr. Kathleen Yoder.
Emergency responders, including the Illinois State Police, Dale Township Fire and Rescue, Bloomington Fire Department, and the McLean County Sheriff’s Office, were dispatched to the scene. The McLean County Coroner’s Office was alerted at 10:53 a.m. CST, and the individual was pronounced dead at 11:11 a.m. The identity of the deceased has not been disclosed pending notification of the next of kin.
An autopsy is scheduled for March 21 to provide additional information. The Illinois State Police and the McLean County Coroner’s Office are actively investigating the circumstances of the incident. Further details will be released as the investigation proceeds.
