A pedestrian was killed Thursday morning after being struck by a pickup truck on Interstate 55 near Shirley, Illinois, according to the McLean County coroner’s office.
Coroner Kathy Yoder reported that her office was notified of the fatality at 10:53 a.m. on Thursday following the incident on I-55 southbound near mile marker 154.
28-year-old Kevin L. Curry, Jr., of Detroit, Michigan, was pronounced dead at the scene, Yoder stated. Curry was reportedly crossing the freeway on foot when he was struck, resulting in multiple blunt injuries. The coroner’s office has not released details regarding why Curry may have been in the roadway.
The crash is currently under investigation by the coroner’s office and the Illinois State Police. A toxicology exam is pending.
