A pedestrian was fatally struck by a truck in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn, early Saturday morning after reportedly bending down to pick up food he had dropped, police said Monday. The 49-year-old truck driver, operating a Mack truck, was making a right turn from Woodpoint Road onto Withers Street at approximately 3:55 a.m. when the incident occurred.
The victim was transported to Elmhurst Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities are still working to identify the deceased. The truck driver initially continued driving but was later located and interviewed by law enforcement. He stated that he was unaware he had struck the pedestrian. No charges have been filed at this time, and the police investigation is ongoing.
