The Petaluma Police Department is investigating an altercation between protesters and a pickup truck that occurred during Saturday’s ‘No Kings’ demonstration. According to police, a group of protesters entered the crosswalk at the intersection of Western Avenue and Petaluma Boulevard North while the signal displayed a green light for vehicles. A pickup truck proceeded through the intersection, sparking concern among the community. One witness on Facebook claimed the pickup truck ‘plowed into’ the protesters. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The driver involved reported the incident to police and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation. Investigators are reviewing video footage and witness accounts to determine if any illegal activity occurred. The ‘No Kings’ event drew hundreds of participants and remained peaceful for most of the day, police said. The department emphasized that drivers are legally obligated to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks, even when they have a green light. “Driving toward pedestrians, particularly families with children, is dangerous and may violate multiple sections of the California Vehicle Code,” the Petaluma Police Department stated. However, pedestrians also have a responsibility to cross streets lawfully and avoid walking against traffic signals, especially outside designated crosswalks. The investigation is ongoing as authorities seek to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.
