Pickup Truck and U-Haul Trailer Cause Major Damage at Rudy’s Barbecue
AMARILLO, Texas – A pickup truck pulling a U-Haul trailer crashed into the iconic Rudy’s “Country Store” and Bar-B-Q sign on I-40 in Amarillo on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.
The collision occurred before 4:20 p.m. near the eastbound I-40 and Western Street. According to reports, the driver of a Toyota Tundra rear-ended a BMW SUV on or near the entrance ramp before veering off the interstate. The vehicle then crossed the service road and the curb, ultimately striking the Rudy’s Barbecue sign.

The impact brought down cinder blocks surrounding the sign’s columns, scattering debris across the parking lot. The pickup truck sustained significant damage, bending in the middle between the bed and the cab.
Authorities have yet to release details regarding the crash, including whether there were any injuries. As of 6:30 p.m., the service road remained closed while cleanup and investigation efforts continued. Police advised drivers to avoid the area.
