Pickup Truck Crashes into Chicago Apartment Building, Injuring Three
A pickup truck crashed into an apartment building in Chicago’s West Woodlawn neighborhood on Saturday morning, leaving three people injured, including a child in critical condition. The incident occurred around 6:15 a.m. in the 600-block of East Marquette Road.

The driver of a Dodge truck struck the apartment building, causing extensive damage. Nine family members were reportedly sleeping inside at the time of the crash. A child and two adults suffered injuries, with the 12-year-old boy, Jahad Anderson, being taken to the hospital in critical condition. His two uncles, who were also in the living room, suffered minor injuries.
The family had gathered for a reunion, and the crash dampened the festivities. “It’s like we’re not safe in our own bed,” said relative Lateshia Hollingsworth. The driver, a female, was also injured and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center. She was cited and taken into custody after police determined she was driving the vehicle, despite some witnesses claiming otherwise.
The crash caused significant damage, with the truck leveling a light pole anchored in concrete before crashing into the building. Neighbors were shocked by the extent of the destruction. Crews made temporary repairs to the building, and the landlord offered the family a vacant unit on the third floor until their unit is repaired.
Area One detectives are investigating the crash. The family hopes the other individuals involved in the incident are apprehended quickly.
