Fatal Crash Investigation Reveals Pickup Truck Crossed Center Line
A devastating collision between a pickup truck and a tour van near Yellowstone National Park last week resulted in seven fatalities after the pickup truck crossed the highway’s center line and struck the van, according to Idaho State Police.
The crash occurred on Thursday, May 1, 2025, near Henry’s Lake State Park in eastern Idaho. Investigating troopers determined that the Dodge Ram pickup truck was traveling west on U.S. Highway 20 when it veered into oncoming traffic and collided with the Mercedes passenger van, which was traveling east toward Yellowstone.

The van was carrying 12 Chinese tourists, one Italian tourist, and a driver. Five Chinese tourists, the Italian tourist, and the pickup truck driver, identified as 25-year-old Isaih Moreno from Humble, Texas, died in the crash. DNA test results will be needed to identify the other victims.
Eight people in the van were injured in the collision. Both vehicles caught fire after impact, complicating the investigation. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is conducting an independent investigation due to the involvement of a commercial vehicle and the severity of the crash. NTSB personnel have visited the scene and are reviewing evidence.
The cause of the pickup truck veering into oncoming traffic remains under investigation by Idaho State Police. The crash occurred in clear weather conditions, according to video footage from the scene.
