Fatal Crash near Yellowstone National Park
A devastating collision between a pickup truck and a tour van near Yellowstone National Park on May 1, 2025, has left seven people dead. According to Idaho State Police, the Dodge Ram pickup truck crossed the center line on U.S. Highway 20 and struck the Mercedes passenger van heading in the opposite direction.
The crash occurred near Henry’s Lake State Park in eastern Idaho, approximately 16 miles west of Yellowstone National Park. The pickup truck, driven by 25-year-old Isaih Moreno from Humble, Texas, was traveling west, while the van was heading east toward Yellowstone. The van was carrying twelve Chinese tourists, one Italian tourist, and a driver. Five Chinese tourists, the Italian tourist, and the pickup truck driver lost their lives in the accident.

Both vehicles caught fire following the collision. DNA test results will be required to identify the other deceased individuals, according to police. Eight people in the van were injured in the crash.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is conducting an independent investigation into the incident, as it involves a commercial vehicle and is of significant magnitude. NTSB personnel have visited the crash site and are reviewing evidence.
The investigation is ongoing to determine the cause that led the driver of the pickup truck to veer into oncoming traffic. The clear weather conditions at the time of the crash have been confirmed through video footage from the scene.
