ORO-MEDONTE — A pickup truck was destroyed in a fire at an Esso gas station just north of Barrie on Tuesday afternoon. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Oro-Medonte Township fire crews responded to the blaze at the gas station located off Highway 11, situated between County Road 93 and Line 1, according to Deputy Fire Chief Murray Langman. The fire, which was reported on Tuesday, completely consumed a late-model GMC Colorado pickup truck, rendering it a total loss. “The fire also extended into a grassy area on the boulevard,” Langman said on Wednesday morning.
Despite the fire being contained to the parking lot, police temporarily closed one northbound lane of traffic on Highway 11 while crews worked to extinguish the flames. The OPP assisted the vehicle owner in arranging for the truck’s removal. Fire crews were on scene for approximately an hour.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined at this time.
