Crest Hill, IL — A pickup truck driver was seriously injured early Friday morning after a collision with a fuel tanker truck on Plainfield Road. Emergency crews worked for more than 30 minutes to extricate the driver from his vehicle.
Police responded to the scene in the 2400 block of Plainfield Road, near a Speedway gas station, just before 12:30 a.m. The pickup truck became trapped underneath the tanker after the tanker had finished refilling gasoline. Due to the extensive damage to the pickup, extrication proved difficult.

Illinois State Police were called in to assist with accident reconstruction, while the Will County Sheriff’s Office helped with traffic control. Route 30 was shut down in both directions for several hours as a result. Residents were notified of the road closure via the Everbridge system.
Following the investigation, which concluded at 4:30 a.m., Crest Hill police determined that the pickup truck driver was impaired. He was subsequently arrested on charges of driving under the influence (DUI) and traffic offenses, including failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. The tanker truck driver was not injured in the crash, according to police.
The identity of the pickup truck driver has not been released, and his current condition is unknown as of late Friday morning.
