FRENCH SETTLEMENT, LA – A pickup truck narrowly avoided plunging into the water after a Tuesday crash on the French Settlement bridge, the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office reported. Photographs released by the Sheriff’s Office show the truck with its front wheels perilously close to the edge, hanging over the guardrails of the bridge over La. 16.
Preliminary investigations suggest that a semi-truck rear-ended the pickup, sending the smaller vehicle up the side of the bridge’s railing. Thankfully, deputies on the scene believed that no one was injured in the incident. The Louisiana State Police were subsequently called to the scene to clear the roadway and assess the damage.
“Busy day in the LP,” a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office commented on the string of incidents. Earlier in the day, the Sheriff’s Office also responded to a variety of other incidents, including a separate incident involving an 18-wheeler that blocked traffic on I-12 westbound near Holden for several hours.
