A collision between a pickup truck and a semi-truck, captured on dash cam, has led to an online debate regarding merging etiquette. Published on March 27, 2025, the video shows a black pickup attempting to merge onto a highway, accelerating to get in front of an approaching semi-truck. However, it quickly becomes clear the pickup won’t make it. Instead of yielding or pulling onto the shoulder, the pickup driver seemingly insisted on having the right-of-way, resulting in a collision.
The impact sent the pickup spinning, briefly sliding in front of the filming semi before being caught under the trailer of a second semi-truck. The initial semi-truck then careened across the highway, repeatedly hitting the barrier walls.
A version of the video includes a voiceover from the pickup truck driver, claiming he was in the right and that the truck driver was at fault for not yielding. However, the original video provides a clearer perspective.
One viewer commented, “Merging traffic is supposed to yield. Driver’s Ed 101,” reflecting the common understanding of merging rules. Another wrote, “Yes it was the pickups fault, but I’ll still bet he won big in court. Because the tractor trailer could of [sic] avoided it. 4 wheelers do that crap to me many times a day. One of the joys of trucking.” A third commenter added, “When it’s safe and legal to do so merge into the flow of traffic….end of story.”
