A disturbing incident unfolded in Pittsburgh on Friday when a school van driver crashed into another vehicle on the 16th Street Bridge and then fled the scene while transporting about six 10-year-old children. Authorities tracked the van through the children’s phones and stopped the driver at the intersection of Becks Run Road and Wagner Street. The driver admitted to consuming alcohol after being stopped by Mt. Oliver Borough Police officers. Fortunately, all the juveniles were safely returned to their family members without any reported injuries. The driver, who is not a Baldwin-Whitehall School District employee but works for First Student, is being held at the Allegheny County Jail and will face charges of driving while intoxicated. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
