Prodrive, a name synonymous with high-performance vehicles, including its championship-winning role with Subaru’s World Rally team and the creation of Ferrari 550 Le Mans racers, is venturing into a new area: electric delivery vehicles. The company, now also selling exceptional $600,000 Impreza 22B tribute cars, is shifting gears. Its latest venture is the EVOLV demonstrator, a compact electric van concept.

This innovative concept is the first offering from ELM Mobility, a joint venture between Prodrive and the British design firm Astheimer. The EVOLV is designed as a last-mile electric delivery vehicle. Production is targeted for 2028.
The EVOLV’s design prioritizes cargo space. Approximately 60% of its total volume is dedicated to carrying goods, providing a substantial 141 cubic feet of storage. This space is divided between a main cargo hold, which is accessible via a side barn door, and a secondary space that provides access through more traditional rear doors. Despite its ample cargo capacity, the EVOLV boasts a compact footprint, measuring 128 inches long and 57 inches wide. This makes it nine inches narrower and over a foot shorter than a Fiat 500e.

The vehicle’s weight is also noteworthy; it weighs less than 1,874 pounds with batteries installed and under 1,322 pounds without them. This weight places the EVOLV in the quadricycle category in England, rather than as a car, which could potentially simplify regulations and enhance maneuverability.

ELM Mobility aims to introduce the EVOLV to city streets by 2028. Its small footprint and tight turning radius should allow it to be incredibly nimble, optimizing it for last-mile deliveries where space is at a premium. Prodrive is planning to sell the EVOLV for the equivalent of $33,000.
