Ram Expands Powertrain Warranty to 10 Years or 100,000 Miles
Ram is taking a significant step in the automotive warranty wars by announcing a 10-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty on all its vehicles, except those sold in fleets. This move comes as the company adapts to changing consumer financing trends and increasing vehicle prices.
The decision to broaden the warranty coverage was inspired by longer leasing terms and the rising cost of vehicles, according to Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis. “Truck buyers are financing purchases for longer periods of time, with nearly 80% of new truck loans exceeding five years,” Kuniskis explained. As leasing timelines lengthen and truck prices rise, Ram aims to offer a comprehensive warranty that will attract buyers considering their next truck purchase.
The powertrain warranty, which applies to the original owner of 2026 and later model years of Ram vehicles, covers critical components such as the engine, transmission, transfer case, driveshafts, differentials, and axles. It’s worth noting that this is not a bumper-to-bumper warranty.

This move marks a significant departure from Ram’s previous powertrain warranty, which was in line with its competitors General Motors and Ford Motor Co. at five years or 60,000 miles, whichever came first. The expanded warranty was initially tested on light-duty pickup trucks before being rolled out to the entire lineup.
Industry experts see the potential benefits of this broader warranty. Stephanie Brinley, associate director of Auto Intelligence at S&P Global Mobility, noted that the warranty can “provide some peace of mind as loans extend to longer and longer payments.” While it’s uncertain whether this will immediately boost sales, it could increase consideration among potential buyers and help retain brand loyalists.
This announcement is part of a larger push by Ram under CEO Tim Kuniskis, who has spearheaded several product releases recently. The company has also announced plans to revive the Hemi engine and return to the NASCAR truck series.
“Ram is making a stronger and longer commitment to our customers,” Kuniskis said, highlighting the brand’s confidence in its products and its dedication to customer satisfaction.
