Ram Extends Standard Powertrain Warranty to 10 Years or 100,000 Miles
Ram is taking a significant step in the automotive industry by extending its standard powertrain warranty to 10 years or 100,000 miles for its 2026 model year vehicles. This move doubles the current warranty period for gas-powered vehicles and matches the existing diesel warranty duration, making it the most robust powertrain warranty in the full-size truck and van market.
The new warranty applies to Ram’s lineup of trucks and vans, including the Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, Ram Chassis Cab 3500/4500/5500, and Ram ProMaster vans. However, it does not cover Ram’s fully electric vehicles. The extended warranty is limited to the original owner and covers critical components such as the engine, transmission, transfer case, driveshafts, differentials, and axles. Subsequent owners will be covered by a five-year, 60,000-mile new vehicle limited warranty.
This change is partly a response to the increasing average loan length for truck buyers. According to Ram, 80% of new truck loans now exceed five years, meaning the previous warranty coverage would expire before buyers finished paying for their vehicles. By extending the warranty period, Ram addresses this concern and provides customers with greater peace of mind.
The warranty extension is part of Ram’s broader strategy, which includes 25 product announcements planned over the next 18 months. Notable upcoming models include the 1500 Ramcharger, a battery-electric vehicle with a built-in range-extending generator expected to launch this year, and the all-electric Ram REV, set to follow in 2026. The Ramcharger is targeted to have a range of 690 miles, while the REV is expected to offer up to 500 miles of range.
Ram’s decision to extend its powertrain warranty positions the brand competitively in the market. Previously, Ram was aligned with other major manufacturers like Ford, Chevrolet, and Toyota, which offered five-year or 60,000-mile powertrain warranties. By doubling the warranty duration, Ram now claims the industry’s most comprehensive powertrain warranty for full-size trucks and vans.
