Rare Electric Car Collection Discovered
Out of Spec Reviews, a group of Californian YouTubers, may have stumbled upon the ultimate electric vehicle barn find. Their discovery? Twelve rare electric cars dating back to the late 1990s.
The team, comprising of Kyle, Alex, and Robert, traveled to Tennessee to meet Bonnie, who inherited the collection from her late husband. His passion for these early EVs led him to amass a remarkable collection of vehicles, some of which are exceedingly rare.

Like many enthusiasts, the allure of a ‘barn find’ is undeniable. These discoveries often unearth hidden treasures. Bonnie shared insights into her late husband’s fascination with electric vehicles.

Bonnie reported that when her husband first heard about electric vehicles in the late 2000s, he initially found the concept hard to believe. However, after watching the 2006 documentary Who Killed the Electric Car?, his perspective shifted. The film explored the challenges electric cars faced in the mid-1990s.
Bonnie stated, “My husband said he was the type of person born with a green light, he had no caution.”
The first EV he acquired came from Springfield, Missouri, a small S10 pickup truck.

Among the collection of vehicles was a converted Dodge Caravan, one of the early additions to the collection.
Referring to the Caravan, Bonnie admitted, “This would have been one of the first ones to be in the shop. [My husband] really wanted this one to work. He actually drove all the way to California and towed this home.”

Included in the collection were an electric Ford Ranger and an EV1, pioneers of the first generation of electric cars, predating models like the Porsche Taycan and the Tesla Model S. The Tesla Roadster, the automaker’s initial EV offering, was also part of the assemblage. A Dodge Epic and the aforementioned Chevy S10 were also present.
