Renault Master: The Most Reliable LCV, According to WSG Data
The Renault Master has emerged as the most dependable light commercial vehicle (LCV), according to new data from Warranty Solutions Group (WSG).
WSG’s analysis, based on 1,000 LCV repair claims from January 1 to December 31 of the previous year, revealed the Master with the lowest claim rate at just 4.55%. The data excluded models with fewer than 100 sales through WSG’s dealer network to ensure a relevant sample size. First released in 2010, the Renault Master received a substantial facelift in 2019, including a refreshed front end, more efficient engines, and an updated interior. WSG highlighted the model’s ride quality as a consistently positive element. The Master offers a wide selection of factory-direct configurations and specialist conversions, giving businesses significant flexibility.
However, while leading in lower claim rates, the Renault Master also recorded the highest average repair expenses. This means while the Master is less likely to break down compared to competitors, the cost of repairs tends to be more significant when issues arise. The most common warranty claims for the Master included starter motors/solenoids (averaging £446.96), Adblue pumps (£1,210.45), and turbochargers (£1,372.67).

Competitor Rankings
The Vauxhall Combo Cargo secured the second position with a claim rate of 10.86%. Its most frequently reported issues were Adblue injectors (averaging £285), turbochargers (£884.00), and Diesel Particulate Filters (DPFs) at £1,542.20.
In third place was the Mercedes Sprinter, with a claim rate of 11.20%. Common problems for the Sprinter included alternators (averaging £444.85), starter motors/solenoids (£496.58), and NOx sensors at £686.21.
The Citroën Berlingo was ranked as the sixth most reliable vehicle overall. A key advantage of the Berlingo is its lowest average claim value, making it a cost-effective selection for drivers.
Industry Impact
Mark Bobbins–head of commercial vehicle sales at WSG–commented on the findings:
“Our findings highlight the real cost of breakdowns—not just in terms of parts and repairs, but also in vehicle downtime, lost productivity, and delivery disruption. Frequent breakdowns not only lead to costly repairs but also disrupt schedules, requiring businesses to rent replacement vehicles. Reliability in the LCV market isn’t just about keeping vehicles on the road—it’s a key driver of business success. From cost savings to brand reputation, operational efficiency, and compliance, investing in dependable vehicles is a strategic decision that impacts the bottom line.”
