A Sanilac County woman suffered serious injuries on Monday afternoon when the pickup truck she was riding in collided with the rear of a trailer stopped on East Sanilac Road near Stringer Road in Custer Township.
According to the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 3:29 p.m. when a 911 caller reported a two-vehicle injury crash. Deputies, along with the Sandusky Fire Department and Sanilac EMS, responded to the scene.
The investigation revealed that an 80-year-old Carsonville man was driving a 2000 GMC pickup west on Sanilac Road when he failed to stop behind a 2006 Chevrolet Express van towing a trailer. The van, driven by a 34-year-old Deckerville man, had halted due to ongoing construction work. The pickup struck the trailer’s rear, resulting in the woman’s injuries.
The 75-year-old female passenger from Carsonville was seriously injured and taken to McKenzie Health System in Sandusky before being transferred to Hurley Medical Center in Flint for further treatment.
Deputies stated that alcohol was not a factor in the crash, but noted that the injured woman was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident.
