TOOELE, Utah (ABC4) — A Tuesday afternoon collision involving a school bus and a pickup truck sent one driver to the hospital and resulted in a citation for the bus driver, according to the Tooele City Police Department.
The driver of the pickup truck, a 46-year-old man from West Valley City, was transported to a local hospital and was listed in stable condition. The bus driver was issued a citation for following too closely.
At the time of the accident, the bus was carrying 54 elementary-aged children and 16 adults. Two students were evaluated by medical personnel at the scene but were later released, police reported in a press release.
Emergency crews responded to the scene at 725 N Main Street at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The bus was traveling south on Main Street, returning from a field trip to the zoo. The white F-150 pickup truck was also heading south. Police reported that the truck driver had stopped to allow a pedestrian to cross Main Street.
“The school bus ran into the back of the F-150,” police stated. “Pieces of metal that had been in the back of the F-150 made contact with the front windshield of the school bus.”
Authorities confirmed that the bus driver was not injured by the debris. Aside from the pickup truck driver and the two students, no other injuries were reported. No further information is currently available.
