School Van Crash in New Bedford: Update and Clarification
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. — An update and clarification on a story reported on NBC 10 News.
New Bedford police have stated that a school transportation minivan involved in a crash on Thursday morning lost its tire just before the incident. The event was caught on video, and it occurred around 8 a.m. on Ashley Boulevard, near the intersection of Wood and Rochambeau Streets. The vehicle involved was a transportation van.

A school department spokesperson confirmed that the van was transporting students from Stoughton to Jacobs Elementary School. Two students who were in the van were brought to the hospital for evaluation and were later released to their families. The van’s driver was not issued a citation.
NBC 10 News previously reported that the van in the video belonged to Whaling City Transit. However, it has been clarified that two separate accidents occurred about 20 minutes apart on the same street in New Bedford. The school van from the second accident was indeed operated by Whaling City Transit. That van was rear-ended at a stop sign. A student in that second van received care from a nurse, and the student’s mother was notified about the accident.
