Fatal Crash Near Yellowstone National Park
A devastating collision between a Mercedes passenger van and a Dodge Ram pickup truck on U.S. Highway 20 near Henry’s Lake, Idaho, resulted in seven fatalities on Thursday, May 2, 2025. The crash occurred around 7:15 p.m. as the van, carrying 14 people, was traveling eastbound toward Yellowstone National Park, while the pickup truck, with one occupant, was heading westbound.

The Idaho State Police reported that six foreign nationals in the van and the 25-year-old male driver of the pickup truck, identified as Isaih Moreno from Humble, Texas, lost their lives in the crash. The names of the van’s victims will be released after their families are notified.
Local resident Roger Merrill witnessed the aftermath of the accident. “It had appeared they had maybe hit head-on — catastrophic damage to both,” Merrill told ABC News. He observed that bystanders were already assisting when he arrived, and the fire did not immediately engulf the vehicles. “The fire did not start immediately — there was no fire present for probably 10 to 15 minutes after I arrived,” he explained.
Emergency responders transported all those involved to hospitals. Three were airlifted, while others were taken by ground ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries. As of Friday, two survivors were in stable condition at Madison Memorial Hospital, three were treated and released, and two were taken to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. U.S. Highway 20 was closed for nearly seven hours following the incident but has since reopened. Henry’s Lake, where the accident occurred, is approximately 17 miles from West Yellowstone, Montana, a key gateway to Yellowstone National Park.
