Shakira Fan Can’t Afford Lamborghini
A fan who won Shakira’s Lamborghini in a recent giveaway has revealed he’s selling the luxury vehicle due to the high costs of ownership.
Michael Mejía, who won the car in December, explained that while Shakira provided $90,000 to help maintain the car, the expenses have proven too high. “So far, all the taxes for transferring the car, legal matters and insurance for six months have been paid,” he said. “And now the federal taxes are due at the end of the year, and yes, that little account already costs more or less like $95,000.”
Mejía added that he was surprised by the high cost of the car’s insurance, which runs about $2,000 per month. He also noted that he had to fill the gas tank twice in just four days, at a cost of $70 each time.
Mejía says he’s received offers of up to $800,000 for the car.
Mejía revealed that he has already received offers between $700,000 and $800,000 for the car, with friends encouraging him to sell for as much as $2 million. “I think that everyone’s dream is to have a million. If it’s a million and one dollar, I’ll be happy,” he said.
Shakira announced the Lamborghini giveaway in November in celebration of her single, “Soletra.”
“What was promised is a debt! I confirm! I’m going to give my car to someone who really wants to have it and enjoy new unforgettable moments with the people I love the most!” she wrote on social media.
Shakira purchased the purple Lamborghini in 2022 following her separation from Gerard Piqué. She stated that the car was a gift to herself as she began her single life, but she later realized the importance of human connection. Fans entered the contest by creating video posts featuring “Soletra” with the hashtag #ElCarroDeShakira.
Mejía’s winning video featured illustrations of the singer as “Soletra” played in the background.
