Skoda Students Create Race-Ready Pickup Truck from Superb Combi
Skoda, the Czech automaker, has a long-standing tradition where students at the Skoda Vocational School create a unique vehicle to mark the end of the school year. This year, 28 students transformed a Skoda Superb Combi into a support vehicle for cycling races, paying homage to the company’s 130-year history that began with bicycles.

This project marks the first time a Super Combi has been used for the student car project. The students converted the vehicle into a pickup truck, complete with a cargo bed at the rear, roof-mounted racks, and an extended tail section to facilitate easy loading and unloading of bicycles. To achieve this transformation, the team had to make significant changes, including redesigning the rear door to slide backward and removing the upper rear section.
The exterior of the vehicle features the classic gold, red, and black Laurin & Klement logo on the bonnet, hubcaps, and steering wheel, reminiscent of the Skoda L&K 130 from 1905. The design incorporates large areas in these signature colors, both inside and out. A notable feature is the backlit grille mask with LEDs capable of displaying any color within the RGB spectrum.
Interior Features and Technical Specifications
Inside, the vehicle boasts the “130 years” logo embroidered on the front sports seat covers. Additional features include an extra display on the passenger side of the dashboard to show data crucial for supporting cyclists, a large cool box for water bottles, and a substantial storage net under the cabin’s roof.
Notably, this is the first Student Car to feature a plug-in hybrid drive, combining a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a 25.7 kWh battery pack.

This innovative project showcases Skoda’s commitment to blending its automotive expertise with its cycling heritage, creating a unique vehicle that supports both the brand’s history and its future in mobility solutions.
