Skoda Celebrates 130 Years with Unique Superb Estate Pickup Conversion
Skoda is marking its 130th anniversary with a special project – the L&K 130, a Superb Estate wagon converted into a pickup truck. This one-off vehicle was created by 28 students from the Skoda Auto Vocational School, in collaboration with Skoda engineers.
The conversion involved significant modifications, including reshaping the B- and C-pillars and removing the rear section to accommodate a custom bike rack. The L&K 130 is based on a plug-in hybrid Superb Estate, making it the first hybrid vehicle in the series of Student Cars.
Innovative Features of the L&K 130
The pickup bed features an electrically extendable platform with integrated rails that can lift and tilt two bikes at a 35-degree angle, allowing the rear section to close with the bikes in place. A third bike can be mounted on the roof. The passenger-side rear door has been redesigned with a unique minivan-style opening mechanism, featuring two locking mechanisms and handles. Inside, the three-person rear bench has been replaced with a cool box and an external speaker kit.
The students also added various tributes to Skoda’s heritage, including gold, red, white, and black accents inspired by the Laurin & Klement logo. The original L&K badge from 130 years ago replaces the modern winged arrow emblem on this special vehicle.
Technical Details and Display
The L&K 130 required over 2,000 hours to complete and features several practical additions, including a radio transmitter, a rear-mounted camera, and a tablet displaying the camera’s footage. The vehicle will be showcased during the 112th edition of the Tour de France, an event Skoda has supported for over two decades.
As with previous Student Cars, there are no plans for production. The L&K 130 stands as a testament to Skoda’s innovative spirit and the skills of the next generation of automotive engineers.
