Speed a Factor in Fatal Geauga County Crash
NEWBURY TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A 15-year-old passenger died early Saturday morning in a single-vehicle crash in Geauga County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred just before 1 a.m. on Burton Heights Boulevard near State Route 44 in Newbury Township. Troopers reported that a Ford pickup truck, driven by a 19-year-old resident of Burton, veered off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree.
The 15-year-old, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other passengers, aged 18 and 19, were transported to a Geauga hospital with minor injuries, authorities said.
Troopers indicated that none of the occupants were wearing seatbelts. Speed “appears to be a factor” in the cause of the crash, the Highway Patrol stated. The investigation is ongoing.
