Stellantis is celebrating two significant milestones at its Sterling Heights Assembly Plant (SHAP) in suburban Detroit. The facility recently marked its 40th anniversary, and the 2 millionth Ram 1500 truck has rolled off the assembly line. The Ram 1500, known for its robust ‘Built to Serve’ reputation, combines workhorse capability with modern comfort. The flagship model revolutionized pickup design with its coil-spring rear suspension and upscale interior options.
Milestone Achievements
The particular pickup that earned the 2 millionth title is an off-road-ready 2025 Ram 1500 RHO in Flame Red paint. The Warlock and Rebel variants of this tough truck are also assembled at this facility. Production of the Ram 1500 at SHAP began in 2018, replacing passenger car production, which previously included the Chrysler 200 sedan.
Future Developments
Stellantis invested $235 million in SHAP last year to build multi-energy variants of the Ram 1500, including the range-extended Ramcharger and the all-electric Ram 1500 REV. The Ramcharger features a 130-kilowatt-hour battery pack and a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine, offering nearly 700 miles of range and 663 horsepower. Plant manager Chuck Padden expressed pride in the workforce, stating, “We have a lot to look forward to as we start building the Ram 1500 with a range of powertrain options, providing freedom of choice for our customers.”
Ram brand CEO Tim Kuniskis added, “Handing keys to nearly 2 million Ram 1500 customers takes a strong team as we start an aggressive product cadence for Ram brand.” The Sterling Heights Assembly Plant is a core facility in Stellantis’ manufacturing footprint, tasked with assembling the Ram 1500 in 10 trim levels and thousands of configurations.
