Stellantis (STLAM.MI), the parent company of Chrysler, is recalling 19,516 hybrid minivans in the United States due to a potential fire hazard. According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issue stems from the battery pack, which may cause a fire even when the vehicle’s ignition is turned off.
The recall affects certain Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid Electric (PHEV) vehicles manufactured between 2017 and 2021. The NHTSA is advising owners to refrain from charging their vehicles and to park them outdoors, away from structures, until repairs are completed.
Dealers will address the issue by updating the high-voltage battery pack control module (BPCM) software.
