Surveillance video obtained by CBS Austin through a public records request shows a dramatic collision between a stolen pickup truck and a CapMetro bus during a police chase on May 1, 2025. The footage, captured inside the bus, reveals the moment when a white Ford F-250 crashed into the vehicle at the intersection of East 54th Street and Duval Street.
The video shows the bus stopping at a stop sign before proceeding into the intersection when the stolen truck slammed into it. Immediately after the impact, the truck’s driver door opens, and the driver falls out before fleeing on foot. A passenger in the back seat exits through an open window and also escapes as Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers arrive at the scene.
Inside the bus, the protective barrier next to the driver shatters and falls on him during the collision. Despite being shaken, the driver remains in his seat. The interior view out of the windshield shows the bus being pushed into another car.
