Automotive Tech: The Road Ahead in 2024

The automotive industry has totally changed from just selling cars. It’s getting more complicated because of what people want, new tech from other industries, and cool advances. The automotive tech market is predicted to hit over $100 billion by 2028, growing about 8.21% every year from 2023 to 2028. Big tech companies, like Google and Tesla, are jumping in, adding more tech to their cars. Car companies are teaming up with tech firms to get skills and money.

One company, Air-Connected Mobility, thinks these tech trends will be big in 2024.

    Safety First

The European Commission updated its rules last year for car safety, called the General Safety Regulation (GSR). The new rules make cars safer for drivers, people walking, and bikers. They hope to save over 25,000 lives and prevent at least 140,000 serious injuries by 2038. Starting in 2024, these things are required:

    • Driver assistance systems (ADAS) like automatic emergency braking and lane departure warning.
    • Data recorders to track how cars are doing, give info after crashes, and help make cars safer.
    • Digital speed help using GPS and maps.
    • Tougher crash tests, plus better sensors and cameras to protect people walking and biking.

    Smarter Infotainment

Drivers want better infotainment systems that work with how they drive. These systems now connect with ADAS, phones, apps, and sensors. But soon, they’ll also talk to other cars and city stuff, all connected through the Internet of Things (IoT). Car companies like Jeep, Tesla, Nissan, and Kia are planning to upgrade their systems and add IoT features.

    Buying Cars Gets Easier

People want more convenience when buying cars. They’re using the internet to look at cars and make smart choices about models, insurance, and accessories. In 2024, car dealers will start selling cars on Amazon in the US, with Hyundai being the first brand available. You know what they say, it’s a whole new world!

    Connected Cars Are Here

Faster internet, thanks to 5G, is making it possible to create networks of connected cars that can talk to each other and the world around them (V2X). This means that your car can talk to other cars, traffic lights, and even the road.

    EVs and Hydrogen Cars

Electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming more popular, especially fuel-cell electric cars. These cars charge fast and go much further than other EVs, which is a big deal for anyone considering switching to electric! A German startup, ChargeX, made a special charging solution that turns parking spots into charging stations to help solve the charging problem.

    Autonomous Vehicles

Self-driving cars are getting a lot of attention. They will help with transport, deliveries, and public transit. They can improve deliveries and help drivers who are feeling sick or tired.

    Connected cars

Car companies are adding tech so their new models can connect to the IoT using wireless technology. These cars help the vehicle interact with the city, other vehicles, and also improve vehicle safety. Connected devices also help find stolen cars, give digital data, and allow remote diagnostics. The future’s here with full vehicle health reports, data-only telematics, access to 4G LTE Wi-Fi Hotspots, directions, and help.

Tech is changing how people drive, buy, and build cars. With 2030 goals in Europe, innovation is key for a sustainable future. Tech is revolutionizing the automotive scene.
