Teenager Convicted in Yonkers Fatal Shooting
YONKERS, NY – A jury has convicted a teenager, Ludvin Ramos-Cervantes, of charges related to a fatal shooting that occurred in Yonkers last year. Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace announced the verdict on Thursday morning. Ramos-Cervantes, 19, was found guilty of second-degree manslaughter and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon in the death of 51-year-old Francisco Gordillo in 2024. He had initially faced a more serious charge of second-degree murder.
District Attorney Susan Cacace released a statement after the verdict. “Mr. Ramos-Cervantes’ dangerous and reprehensible conduct took an innocent life and shattered a loving family,” she said. “While no verdict can repair the damage he caused, I am grateful that my office was able to secure accountability for the defendant’s callous behavior. Gun violence is too often the cause of heartbreak, and my office is working hand in hand with local police departments to remove illegal guns from the streets of Westchester.”
According to prosecutors, the incident occurred on February 26, 2024, around 4:45 a.m. Gordillo had driven Ramos-Cervantes home after an evening of drinking. After briefly entering his apartment, Ramos-Cervantes returned to the car with a .45 caliber pistol. He then shot Gordillo in the head while his arm was wrapped around him. Gordillo was pronounced dead at the scene.
The teenager initially told police that Gordillo had died by suicide, but later claimed the gun had discharged accidentally.
Ramos-Cervantes faces a maximum sentence of five to fifteen years in state prison for the felony manslaughter charge, and a maximum of fifteen years for the felony criminal possession of a weapon. Sentencing is scheduled for April 25. The Yonkers Police Department conducted the investigation.
DA Cacace also thanked the Westchester County Department of Labs and Research’s Division of Forensic Sciences and the Westchester County Police Department’s Ballistics Unit for their assistance in the case.
