Telo MT1: A New Take on the Electric Pickup
On March 6, 2025, TELO Trucks publicly unveiled its MT1 battery electric pickup truck, introducing a fresh perspective on electric mobility. The MT1, roughly the size of a MINI Cooper, showcases a unique design and functionality aimed at redefining the electric vehicle landscape.

With a mid-gate feature reminiscent of the Chevy Avalanche, the MT1 can carry objects up to eight feet long. TELO Trucks positions the MT1 as the world’s most efficient mini pickup truck, targeting both consumer and fleet audiences seeking sustainability, compact size, and practicality. The truck’s battery technology is optimized for urban settings, making it an ideal solution for navigating city environments.
Innovation and Design
The arrival of the TELO MT1 comes at a time when many drivers are tired of the excessive size of modern pickup trucks. The MT1, measuring 152 inches in length, 73 inches in width, and 66 inches in height, offers a more manageable alternative. It’s a direct throwback to the small trucks of yesteryear, offering roughly 85% of the utility of their larger counterparts without the bulk.
TELO Trucks completed a $5.4 million strategic funding round, focusing on interwoven design, engineering, and manufacturing. The company is experiencing a surge in pre-orders due to its design-led approach. TELO emphasizes its commitment to human-centered innovation, aiming to drive the future of electric mobility. Yves Béhar, a renowned industrial designer and TELO co-founder, led the interior design efforts, prioritizing sustainability, comfort, and functionality.
Inside, the MT1 features surfaces made from biodegradable cork, promoting a luxurious feel with reduced environmental impact. The innovative seat arrangement ensures rear passengers have ample legroom, aligning with larger crew-cab pickups. Beneath the bed, the “Monster Tunnel” provides extra storage, ideal for adventure gear or everyday essentials. According to Béhar, “We designed the future of utility transportation by maximizing every inch to provide comfort without compromising performance or capability.”
Powertrain and Performance
While the MT1’s design is innovative, the powertrain incorporates off-the-shelf components to ensure efficiency. Available in both dual-motor, all-wheel-drive, and single-motor, rear-wheel-drive configurations, the MT1 utilizes standard e-motor designs with a limited-slip differential for improved traction. Despite using 400-volt power components, the MT1 is expected to achieve up to 250 kW charging speeds.
The base model of the MT1 offers a 260-mile range, 300 horsepower, and a starting price of $41,520. A long-range version with a 106 kWh battery extends the range to 350 miles, while the dual-motor option increases the starting price to $50,520.
The MT1 is designed to haul a 1,700 lb payload and tow up to 6,600 lbs, although it wasn’t designed for long-distance towing. Production of the MT1 is expected to begin next year with the help of a contract manufacturer. TELO Trucks plans to proceed with rigorous safety plus durability testing.
Jason Marks, TELO Trucks co-founder and CEO, stated, “TELO is proving that in a market stuffed with legacy brands, it is possible for a mini, mighty startup to deliver on time, on budget, and with real impact.”
With over 5,000 pre-orders, TELO offers reservations for a modest $152 fee, which matches the truck’s length in inches. The MT1’s design aims to attract those seeking a pickup truck reminiscent of the classic mini-trucks from the past.
