Tesla Refunds Early India Bookings of Model 3, Signals Nearing Entry into Market
Tesla India has begun refunding booking amounts to customers who reserved the Tesla Model 3 electric sedan years ago. This move, combined with the company posting new job roles on its careers page, suggests that Tesla is preparing for an imminent launch in the Indian market.
The US-based electric car manufacturer has started sending emails to consumers who made reservations for the Tesla Model 3 back in 2016. The email reads, “We would like to return your reservation fee for the time being. When we finalize our offerings in India, we will reach out in the market again. We hope to see you back with us once we are ready to launch and deliver in your country.”

This development has sparked speculation that Tesla is nearing a rollout in the third-largest global automobile market. The move appears to be a clearing of the decks before the new models are officially launched in India, following the company’s years of hesitation due to high import duties.
Earlier this year, Tesla India posted multiple job vacancies on their career page in different cities across the country, fueling speculation about a nearing entry into the Indian market. The new job roles advertised include store manager, sales advisor, and service manager in New Delhi, as well as a charging developer in Mumbai.
The electric car maker’s actions suggest that it is preparing for a significant presence in India, one of the most anticipated events in the country’s automobile market. With Tesla discontinuing the older generation Tesla Model 3 and selling the new generation EV, the stage is set for a potential launch of the new models in India.
As Tesla continues to make moves towards entering the Indian market, consumers and industry watchers alike are eagerly awaiting further developments. The refund of booking amounts and the posting of new job roles are seen as positive indicators of Tesla’s commitment to launching in India soon.
