Tesla Sales Slump in Germany
FRANKFURT, March 5 (Reuters) – Tesla (TSLA.O) faced a sharp downturn in sales volume in Germany during February, according to data from the German road traffic agency KBA. This occurred despite an upward trend in overall electric vehicle (EV) sales within the country.
The KBA website indicates that Tesla sold just 1,429 cars in Germany last month, representing a 76% decrease. This decline surpasses the 60% drop recorded in January. In contrast, the broader market for electric vehicles in Germany saw a rise of 30.8%, with a total of 35,949 EVs sold.

KBA officials have not offered specific reasons for Tesla’s sales performance. Prior reports, released earlier this week, revealed significant sales declines in Scandinavia and France as well.
Some analysts suggest that Tesla’s sales downturn might be linked to CEO Elon Musk’s perceived support of far-right political parties in Europe, including the Alternative for Germany (AfD). The AfD achieved second place in the previous month’s national elections. Across Europe, Tesla sales were down by 45% in January from a year earlier.
