At the 2024 Annual Shareholders Meeting, Elon Musk shared a peek at Tesla’s upcoming electric vehicle (EV) projects. While details remain limited, anticipation is building for these new models.
“Obviously, we have some new products that we’re working on under the covers. I think these are gonna be pretty special. Some of them, I think people maybe at first might think, ‘Oh, it’s not gonna be that amazing.’ But…just wait. It will be,” said Elon Musk.
Tesla has been dropping clues about these next-generation EVs. These hints come after the Master Plan Part 3, which revealed a compact vehicle, a commercial/passenger van, and a bus.
Tesla’s Compact Car
This compact EV, informally known as the Model 2 or Model Q, is slated to be the first of the new models to enter production, possibly in the second half of 2025. Tesla is planning two versions: one with a steering wheel and another, the Cybercab, without.
Production is projected to begin at Gigafactory Mexico employing the “Unboxed Process”. Elon Musk has also suggested a third manufacturing location outside of North America.
The Tesla Van and Bus
The company has considered an electric van. During the 2020 Q4 and Full Year earnings call, Musk stated that Tesla will “definitely” make an electric van at some point. The Cybertruck and Semi designs could simplify the process. A bus is also a possibility.
Based on a presentation, Tesla might be teasing the Cybercab and Model 2 as distinct models.
Also, there’s the much-anticipated Roadster 2.0.
