Tesla’s New Software and Hardware Innovations
Tesla is continually evolving its technology, and recently, several new features and developments have been announced. These updates span software enhancements focused on user convenience to infrastructure expansions aimed at supporting the growing electric vehicle fleet.
Reminder to Plug In at Home Feature
Tesla’s software update 2024.2.3 introduces a “Reminder to Plug In at Home” feature. This feature sends a notification through the Tesla app, prompting drivers to connect their vehicle to a charger. The notification is triggered when the car is parked at home with less than half of the set charge limit.
To use this feature, drivers must set their home location and have previously charged at home. The system aims to simplify the charging process, ensuring that owners remember to plug in, even when they might forget.
This feature is expected to be optional. Users can adjust their notification preferences within the Tesla app. The app already includes options to customize notifications for various vehicle functions, such as the car alarm, new software updates, and cabin overheat protection.

Virtual Queues for Superchargers
To improve the experience at Supercharger stations, Tesla is implementing a virtual queuing system. This system is set to launch as a pilot program at select Supercharger sites. The implementation is designed to reduce wait times and create a more orderly charging environment, especially during periods of high demand. The system is expected to mitigate conflicts and ensure a fair, organized charging experience for all users.
Although details on the exact workings of the virtual queue are limited, there are a few potential approaches. The queue may involve linking a vehicle’s VIN to secure spots, which would prevent a vehicle from charging outside of its turn. Tesla could also provide drivers with queue information and estimated wait times on their vehicle’s screens. Additionally, physical indicators may direct drivers to available Supercharger stalls.

Tesla’s First Public Megacharger Site
Tesla is constructing its first public Megacharger site near the 405 and 110 freeway corridors in California. This site, located near the Port of Long Beach, will support Tesla’s electric truck fleet. The site will feature Megachargers that support up to 1,000kW of power, able to add significant range in a short amount of time for the Semi. In addition to charging stations, the site will include a lounge with amenities for drivers.
This marks a significant step in the development of charging infrastructure supporting electric trucks. Compared to Superchargers, which are slowly opening up to other EV brands, Megachargers will primarily be used by Tesla Semis, ensuring efficient operations and reduced downtime for the trucks.

These recent advancements showcase Tesla’s commitment to improving both the usability of its vehicles and the supporting infrastructure needed to maintain and extend the adoption of EVs. These updates contribute to a wider effort to enhance the EV ownership experience and facilitate long-term sustainability in transportation.
