On a balmy late afternoon in August 2024, Sushil and Radhika Chetal were house-hunting in an upscale Danbury, Connecticut neighborhood. Sushil, a Morgan Stanley vice president, was driving a new matte gray Lamborghini Urus when their vehicle was suddenly rammed by a white Honda Civic and trapped by a white Ram ProMaster van. Six masked men in black emerged, forcing the couple from their car at gunpoint and dragging them toward the van’s open door.
The assailants used violence to subdue Sushil when he resisted, hitting him with a baseball bat and threatening to kill him. Both Sushil and Radhika were bound with duct tape – Radhika was forced to lie face down and was warned not to look at her attackers, while Sushil had his face wrapped in duct tape and was beaten further.
Quick Police Response
Multiple witnesses, including an off-duty FBI agent, observed the attack and called 911. The FBI agent trailed the van and Honda, providing license plate numbers to the police. Danbury officers soon located the van and attempted to stop it, but the driver accelerated, leading to a high-speed chase.
The van eventually crashed about a mile from where the chase began. Four suspects fled on foot but were quickly apprehended in nearby areas. Police found the Chetals bound in the back of the van, shaken but alive. The rapid response and coordination between witnesses and law enforcement led to the swift capture of the suspects.
