Toyota Launches Land Cruiser Commercial Van
Toyota has introduced the Land Cruiser Commercial, a van variant of its legendary SUV, specifically designed for businesses that operate in challenging environments. This new model is particularly suited for delivery drivers navigating rugged terrains such as Scotland’s Highlands, the Alps, or the Arctic Circle.
The Land Cruiser Commercial is created by modifying the standard Land Cruiser at Toyota’s UK manufacturing facility in Derbyshire. The conversion involves removing the rear seats and installing opaque steel coverings over the rear windows and windscreen. A mesh bulkhead is also added to separate the cargo area from the front compartment, enhancing safety by preventing cargo from shifting during sudden stops.

The Commercial retains the standard Land Cruiser’s robust capabilities, including full-time all-wheel drive, various off-road drive modes, and advanced technologies like hill descent control and Crawl Control. Initially, it will feature the same 2.8-liter turbodiesel engine producing 201bhp and 369lb-ft of torque, although it will soon be upgraded to a newly revealed mild hybrid powertrain.

The cargo capacity is rated at 2000 liters, which, while seemingly modest, is designed to meet the needs of businesses requiring access to challenging locations rather than maximizing cargo volume. Pricing for the Land Cruiser Commercial starts at £52,729, significantly lower than the £77,845 required for the standard passenger version, making it an attractive option for business users who can reclaim VAT.

The Land Cruiser Commercial offers a practical solution for businesses operating in demanding environments, combining Toyota’s renowned off-road capability with the functionality of a van.
