‘Horrible Tragedy:’ Report Reveals Circumstances Behind Bledsoe County Dog Incident
BLEDSOE COUNTY, Tenn. — A tragic accident involving a dog being dragged behind a pickup truck in Bledsoe County has been investigated, and the details are heartbreaking. The incident occurred on April 22nd and came to light after a video of the event went viral on Facebook.
According to the incident report obtained by investigators, the dog in question was known to roam and had been chained to a long cable to allow it to move around while preventing it from entering neighboring properties. On the day of the incident, the dog’s owner was mowing the lawn when another person returned home to move the doghouse, unchaining the dog in the process. The dog then lay down underneath the truck.
The report states that the individual forgot to rechain the dog before leaving. After finishing mowing, they got into the truck, backed up, and drove to their destination without noticing the dog. It wasn’t until they arrived at work and got out of the truck that they saw their dead dog behind the vehicle.
The owner later told investigators that they had not intentionally attached the dog’s chain to the truck. When they jerked the chain, it came loose from the vehicle. The dog was then placed in the bed of the truck, taken home, and buried in the yard.
Detectives consulted with the 12th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, and it was determined that there was no criminal intent involved. The incident was deemed a tragic accident, and no charges will be filed.
