A shooting in Philadelphia’s Kensington neighborhood early Wednesday morning has left one man dead and two others injured. The incident occurred on Cambria Street between Hope and Howard streets at around 4 a.m. on May 14, 2025. According to Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small, the victims were all men in their 40s. Police found two of the victims inside a pickup truck parked along Cambria Street. The 42-year-old driver, later identified as Shawn D. Baskins of Norristown, was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the head and died shortly after. A 49-year-old passenger was shot multiple times in the body and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. A third victim, a 40-year-old man, arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg and was listed in stable condition.

It appears that the victims were targeted, with evidence suggesting at least 15 shots were fired near the truck. Investigators found bullet holes in the passenger side of the truck, indicating that the shooter fired into the open driver’s door. The truck’s cab and bed were filled with debris, and the hood was up. Police are investigating the motive and looking into surveillance footage to identify the shooter. They are also exploring a possible connection to a deadly shooting that occurred Tuesday night on Hope Street, just a few blocks away.
In a separate incident on Wednesday morning, a man was found shot dead on a roof along East Albert Street, near Kensington Avenue. The victim was later identified as 46-year-old Jeffrey Gavin of North Philadelphia. A $20,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction in both homicides. Despite these incidents, Philadelphia’s homicide rate is down about 21% in 2025 compared to last year, with 74 homicides reported so far.
