Detectives are working to solve a mystery in the Santa Cruz Mountains after the discovery of two bodies found in an abandoned pickup truck. The grim find occurred along State Route 35, approximately three miles south of Castle Rock State Park.
A tow truck, escorted by a California Highway Patrol (CHP) cruiser, was observed removing the pickup truck from the scene, where the bodies were located. The area, a remote stretch of Skyline Boulevard, has few residents and lacks visible surveillance cameras.
Castle Rock State Park, a popular destination for hikers, is nearby. The news of the discovery has shocked many. One hiker shared their surprise: “No, that’s pretty weird. That’s not a normal thing. But I guess we’ll find out some more answers, huh?”
In a statement, the CHP confirmed the ongoing nature of the investigation, stating, “Two individuals were located in a vehicle. As the deaths were not witnessed, they are coded as suspicious until a coroner can confirm cause and manner of death.” The CHP also indicated that they will pursue leads based on the findings of the autopsy results.
Authorities are awaiting the coroner’s report to shed light on this perplexing case in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
