In a shocking incident of vandalism, two known troublemakers, identified as Suraj alias Kala and his accomplice Nana, went on a rampage in Bhopal’s Shahpura area on Monday morning. Armed with sticks and rods, they attacked a school van carrying children, as well as other vehicles passing through the Sabzi Farm downhill turn. The rampage, which lasted over 45 minutes, resulted in damage to around 12 vehicles, including auto-rickshaws, e-rickshaws, vans, cars, and SUVs.
The miscreants targeted a couple dropping their child at school, hitting their SUV’s windscreen with a rod and hurling a brick at it. Locals alerted the police, but the accused had fled by the time officers arrived. Several people were injured during the incident.
Suraj, a listed goon from the Habibganj area, had been released from jail just before Holi this year after serving six months for an Arms Act case. His accomplice, Nana, is known to the Misrod police. The Shahpura police have registered a case against the duo, and Zone-1 police have initiated proceedings to book Suraj under the National Security Act (NSA) due to his history of violent activities.
The complainant, Devendra Verma, an e-rickshaw driver, reported that the accused were smashing vehicle windows while he was ferrying passengers. Another victim, Shibbu Nair, described how the accused attacked his SUV with sticks and stones while he was taking his wife and son to school.
The incident caused brief panic among commuters, with residents noting that the same accused had caused similar disturbances at night in the area previously. DCP (Zone-1) Priyanka Shukla confirmed that a search is underway to apprehend the duo.
