BERTRAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Two men died early Saturday morning in a crash near Buchanan, Michigan, that left one vehicle overturned atop the other.
Berrien County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the intersection of US-12 and South Redbud Trail around 1:15 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered a Jeep Wrangler on top of a Chrysler sedan. The driver of the Chrysler was trapped inside.
Despite life-saving efforts, the driver, a 19-year-old man from Ames, Iowa, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.
The driver of the Jeep, a 36-year-old man from Edwardsburg, had been ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Investigators determined that the Chrysler was traveling south on South Redbud Trail and failed to yield to the eastbound Jeep, leading to the collision.
Neither driver was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, and deputies suspect alcohol may have been a contributing factor.
The crash remains under investigation.
