A collision involving two pickup trucks in Mecca, California, claimed the lives of two people on Friday morning.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to the scene near the intersection of 68th Avenue and Grant Street at approximately 10:15 a.m., according to official records. CHP Officer David Torres reported that a red Toyota Tacoma, traveling north on Grant Street, collided with a black Toyota Tundra heading west on 68th Avenue.
Following the initial impact between the two vehicles, the Tundra overturned and subsequently struck a power pole. Both a man and a woman were inside the Tundra at the time of the collision, and both succumbed to their injuries at the scene within 25 minutes, CHP records indicated.
The driver of the Tacoma, a 25-year-old man, sustained minor injuries in the crash, according to Officer Torres. Despite the impact, the power pole remained standing.
Authorities have stated that neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected to have been factors in the collision. As of Friday afternoon, the identities of the deceased had not yet been publicly released.
